Writer/director Lulu Wang's Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize nominee THE FAREWELL "unearths the universality of complex familial love that defies borders and language barriers" (Time Out). Based on an actual lie, it centers on Chinese-born, U.S.-raised Billi (Awkwafina), who returns to Changchun to find that her family has decided not to tell their beloved matriarch Nai Nai  that her cancer diagnosis has left her with mere weeks to live. To assure her happiness, they gather under the joyful guise of an expedited wedding, uniting family members scattered among new homes abroad. As Billi navigates a minefield of family expectations and proprieties, she rediscovers the country she left as a child, her grandmother’s wondrous spirit, and the ties that keep on binding even when so much goes unspoken.
