Marion Cotillard gives a thrilling performance in this Palme d’Or nominated portrait of Prohibition era New York. Based on the stories and experiences of director James Gray’s own grandparents, THE IMMIGRANT follows a young Polish woman in search of a new start in America. Separated from her sister at Ellis Island, Ewa finds herself caught in a dangerous battle of wills with a shady burlesque manager played by Joaquin Phoenix. The arrival of his cousin (Jeremy Renner) may be Ewa’s only chance to escape the nightmare in which she finds herself.
